Hadoc privacy policy
Hadoc keeps what you put into it, and anything made from it, on your iPhone. There are no accounts, no servers of ours, no analytics of ours, no advertising, no tracking and no third-party code, and the app makes no network requests of its own. We hold nothing you write, record or attach, and we have no way to reach it.
Four things can leave your phone, and all four are below. Only one is Hadoc's doing: turning a recording into text, which happens only if you turn dictation on. The other three are an export you send yourself, your iPhone's backups, and crash reports you have switched on.
What can leave your phone
1. Dictation, when you turn it on
Dictation turns a recording into text using Apple's speech recognition. It is off until you turn it on, and nothing is sent to be transcribed until you do. The first time you turn it on, iOS asks whether Hadoc may use speech recognition. Apple's speech recognition may process your audio on Apple's servers rather than on your device.
We want to be straightforward about this. Apple provides a way for developers to request on-device-only recognition, but Apple's documentation does not guarantee that audio will never be transmitted, and there is no way for an app to verify where processing actually happened. Rather than make a promise we cannot stand behind, we're telling you plainly: if you use dictation, assume your audio may reach Apple.
iOS tells you this too, in its own alert when it asks for the permission. What happens to that audio is governed by Apple's privacy policy, not ours — see apple.com/legal/privacy. We never see it, receive it or store it. The text comes back to your phone and stays there with the recording.
This version of Hadoc does not request on-device-only recognition. If that changes, this policy changes with it.
If you don't want your audio sent to Apple, leave dictation off. Everything else in Hadoc works without it; your recordings simply aren't transcribed.
2. An export, when you make one
You can export your data and send it wherever you choose. That is your action, not ours, and we never see an export. Once it leaves the app it is outside Hadoc's control, and other software can read it, so treat it as you would any other private file. Anything you attach from your photo library keeps whatever is stored inside it, which can include where it was taken.
3. Your iPhone's backups
Hadoc's data is part of your iPhone's normal backups, like any app's, and we don't exclude it. If you back up to iCloud, it is in that backup under Apple's terms. If you back up to a computer, it stays there.
4. Crash and usage reports, if you've allowed them
If you have turned on Share With App Developers, under Settings › Privacy & Security › Analytics & Improvements, iOS can send app makers crash reports and usage information. That is Apple's feature, and it works the same way in every app.
Permissions
Hadoc may ask for the camera, the microphone and speech recognition, each only when you first use something that needs it. Declining any of them leaves the rest of the app working, and you can change them at any time in iOS Settings.
Hadoc does not ask for your photo library. When you attach a photo or video you already have, iOS's own picker passes Hadoc only the item you choose.
Tag suggestions
Tag suggestions are worked out on your phone, from what you put in and how you've tagged it before. Nothing is sent anywhere to make them.
Deleting
You can delete anything in Hadoc, or everything at once, and there is no undo. Deleting the app deletes its data too. Because everything is on your phone, we cannot read, recover, restore or delete it for you. A backup made before you deleted something may still hold it, until that backup is replaced or deleted.
What we hold about you
Nothing from the app. The only way personal information reaches us is if you write to us.
If you email support@bigspace.co.nz, we get what you send, including your email address. We use it to answer you and for nothing else. It sits in our mailbox with our email provider, and we don't pass it on unless the law requires it. We keep it only as long as we need it to help you, and you can ask us to show you, correct or delete it at any time.
Things that are not Hadoc
The iPhone keyboard, including its dictation key, the tools iOS adds to every app, and any keyboard you have installed are not part of Hadoc. They work the same way here as anywhere else on your phone, under their own terms, and some of them can send what you type or say off your phone. Our website has its own privacy policy, at bigspace.co.nz/privacy.
Children
Hadoc is made for a general audience, is not directed at children, and collects nothing from anyone.
Where you live
Big Space Limited is a New Zealand company, so New Zealand's Privacy Act 2020 covers what we do, wherever you are. If you think we have handled privacy badly, tell us first. You can also complain to New Zealand's Office of the Privacy Commissioner at privacy.org.nz.
Europe and the United Kingdom. If you email us, we are the controller of that email, we handle it because we have a legitimate interest in answering you, and we keep it as described above. You can ask for a copy, a correction or its deletion, or object to our holding it, and you can complain to your data protection authority.
California. Hadoc does not track you across apps or websites, so a Do Not Track signal has nothing here to switch off.
Changes to this policy
Hadoc carries its own copy of this policy, so the copy in the app changes only when the app does. If what Hadoc does with your data changes, we say so in that update's release notes, publish the new version on our website, and update the version and date at the top. If we ever add something like syncing between devices, it will be a switch you turn on rather than a change made for you.
